I introduced the role of the “Courageous Confident Candidate” at my TEDx Talk recently at La Sierra University and it’s one of the many important roles we play. I think of it as a superhero — because superheroes embody those qualities of courage and confidence that we all want to have to be successful!
Why do we need to play the courageous confident candidate? Well, so we can have the confidence in our speaking voice to master our pitches, ace the interview, ask for the raise, get the promotion, etc…
One of the ways we can practice this role and feel it, is to #GiveGreatVoice to ourselves, by affirming important qualities. These are eight of the top qualities that employers are looking for.
Confidence
Likability
Flexibility
Trustworthy
Enthusiastic
Intelligent
Personable
Courageous
If you think about it, these are the same qualities that we think of superheroes embodying as well.
Affirm these qualities every day in the mirror while standing in your power pose like our heroes above, preferably and say “I am Confident” “I am Likable” and so on. Using your powerful superhero voice, you will FEEL powerful, confident, intelligent, courageous and all of the other traits! This really is a great tool that you can use anytime before a job inerterview, presentation or big client meeting. Or even on a personal level, before you ask someone on a date.
We ACT as if and we become!
