One of my favorite antidotes, to when I start to feel anxious and negative and those fearful feelings start to creep in, is to take a deep breath and say aloud three things I’m grateful for. This practice instantly helps me to gently redirect my mind towards the abundance I have in my life right now. It takes me away from the fear of the future, or regrets of the past. Sometimes they’re blessings that I take for granted, until I say it out loud like, “I’m grateful for my health and for my husband and my kids.” And sometimes it’s for the gifts of my eyes that see and my ears that hear and my lips that speak. Sometimes it’s for the cool job I have or that I get to do what I love for my profession.
It’s wonderful to start the day with this practice as you’re waking up and still in that receptive drowsy state to say aloud three things, even for being grateful just to be alive. It sets the morning on the right track before the outside world and all the busy-ness comes calling.
When a stressful moment hits you during the day and you feel your heart beating faster and your fight or flight response kick in…taking a deep breath and saying quietly three things to be grateful for can help you take a step back and gain some insight on how important “this issue is” and might give you some perspective.
And as you go to sleep and the thoughts start streaming uninvited…as they will, and you’d like them to stop or go away…perhaps this gratitude list can be a wonderful way to redirect those thoughts and help you drift off into a pleasant sleep and help your subconscious mind positively program for the following day.
Give great voice to your blessings and watch them multiply. Would love your thoughts and suggestions on how you lift yourself up. Leave a note in the comments! If you are interested in training with me feel free to send an email.
